Our Referee Motto is:
"No one can do everything, but everyone can do something!"
Misconduct MUST be reported...
Attention all referees:  Any misconduct issues during a game must be reported to the head referee Gus Martinez within 24 hours.   referee@ayso56.org

Discipline Policy:
  • Do not use red or yellow cards for U8 or U10 players.Use extreme caution with using cards at the U12 level.
  • See our Zero Tolerance Policy (below) concerning youth referee abuse and for Misconduct Dispensations for players and coaches.

Special Rules U8 Games:
  • No penalty kicksNo off-side (don't allow obvious "cherry picking" either)
  • There will be only direct kicks at this level, and only from outside the penalty area for the attacking team.
Overtime Play-Offs

Region 56 playoff games may not end in a tie. A winning team must be determined. Substitutions may be made at the end of each overtime period. A player does not have to play in the fourth quarter of a regular game in order to participate in the overtime periods. A coin flip will determine kick-off and direction for the first overtime period just as it does for the start of a game. When a playoff game is tied at the end of regulation play, a series of two overtime periods and penalty kicks will be played as follows:
NOTE: This is NOT sudden victory overtime

  • The team with the most goals at the end of the two (2) overtime periods shall be declared the winner. Teams playing short in regulation time play as a result of ejection(s), shall continue to do so in overtime. If there is still a tie, then kicks from the penalty spot shall be taken to decide the winner: Players will switch sides at the end of each overtime period. No half time break will be permitted, i.e. play in the second overtime period must begin immediately. The length of overtime play shall be:
    • Two (2) ten (10) minute periods for U19 and U16 Two (2) nine (9) minute periods for U14 Two (2) seven (7) minute periods for U12
    • Two (2) five (5) minute periods for U10
Should a tie remain after the completion of the two (2) overtime periods, a winner shall be determined by a Shoot-Out (taking of kicks from the Penalty Mark in accordance with FIFA Law):
  • Player's on the field at the end of the second overtime period may take part in the Shoot-Out, and none of these players may be exempted from the taking of a kick, should the number of kicks required to determine a winner, warrant their participation.
    • The team kicking order will be determined by a coin flip. Winner decides who kicks first. The teams will alternate taking a kick. If before both teams have taken five kicks, one has scored more goals than the other team could score, no more kicks are taken. If, after both teams have taken five kicks, both have scored the same number of goals, or have not scored any goals, kicks continue to be taken in the same order until one team has scored one goal more than the other team from the same number of kicks.
    • Each kick is taken by a different player and all eligible players must take a kick before any player can take a second kick.
